3-Part Program
Part One: Orientation
Prerequisite: Meet enrollment requirements
Students will learn about program requirements, enroll in the first part of the program, and meet the instructor, college staff, and classmates.
Part Two: Permit Preparation (VOCE 770)
Prerequisite: Attend Orientation
Location: 188bet.com North County Campus
Enables students to become familiar with regulations governing the operation of commercial vehicles and safe operational practices. This course follows state and federal guidelines for commercial driver training programs and is approved by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration as an Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) program. Participation in this course does not guarantee students will earn their Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP). Upon completion of this course, students must pass the written CLP test at a California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) office. Students must provide DMV with a number of documents including a 3-year driver history and a medical clearance.
Part Three: Behind-the-Wheel Range Operations and Road Driving Skills (VOCE 771 & 772)
Prerequisite: Commercial Learners Permit (CLP)
Location: 188bet.com North County Campus
Students in this course will prepare for the range operations section of the California Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) License exam. Students will practice moving forward, straight-line backing, parallel parking, ally docking, and external/internal inspections (pre-trip inspection). Additionally, students will demonstrate safe CMV operation by driving a CMV with an instructor on public and private roads.
Please note: This course includes individual appointments to the DMV—students use the same truck used in class to take their CDL driving test at the DMV.
